Dive Deep for Deliciousness [Surati Farsan Mart]

In the Indian language of Gujarati, Surati Farsan Mart translates to sweets and snacks.  For me, a spicy, cozy $5 dollar lunch while watching R-rated Bollywood hits has always been more than worth the drive up highway 15.  A luscious gem off Black Mountain road serving Indian style tapas, spicy, crunchy snacks, sweet, nut-filled candies & 24 inch crepes.  Before I get a ticket from the grammar police, let me clarify; the crepes are really called Dosas, and they’re made from lentils instead of white flour.  My favorite is the Masala Dosa; translates to 24 inches of lentil pasty stuffed with potatoes and peppers served with a creamy, coconut chutney and spicy, warm vegetable soup.  Are you now ready to get your Bollywood groove on?  9494 Black Mountain Rd., San Diego, CA  92126.

I've never been a big fan of Indian food, but then again about the only thing I know is curry. Thanks for opening my eyes again and enlightening me about the possibilities. You are just a wealth of culinary creative information, Jenny.

    • Gary – Thank you for always making my day brighter! Let's journey up to Surati Farsan Mart together soon. You will swoon. 🙂

  • I never knew there was such a thing as R-rated Bollywood hits. Worse yet, I've been to that market a dozen times and never noticed a theater nearby.

    • Ohh Chad, the R-rated movies play inside the restaurant. I would love to elaborate on why I consider then R-rated, but Culinary Creatives is a PG establishment, so I'll keep my comments to myself (for now). 🙂

  • Jenny – this looks fantastic! I love the photos too.

    • Jeniffer- Thanks a big heap! That's a ginormous compliment coming from a talented gal like yourself. 🙂

  • Ah, you flatter me – Chad is the talented one, I'm just along for the ride.

So – I was in an Indian restaurant awhile ago – downtown San Diego I think – and in the women's room they had an R-rated Bollywood playing above the hand-drier (exactly where I would place it…) and there was this woman staring at it with this dumbfounded look on her face when I walked in—we just looked at each other and shrugged. I totally forgot about this until now. Brings a whole new meaning to the word Spicy. 🙂

    • Jeniffer.. You and Chad make a great team; dynamic duo. WOW! I've never heard of movies playing in the powder room. I must investigate. 🙂

  • Yum- now I know which route I'm taking on my next trip down to SD. Nice work!

    • Thank you, thank you, and more thank you(s)!! You have to try it on your new trip!! Soooo yum-town.
